PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
