The star has given the full amount of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's small concert spaces.

Fender was given the award on mid-October as his latest record the album was named the outstanding release of the past year.

He has opted to give the cash to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages had in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, top acts like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds helped locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges caused by water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Additional spaces obtained funding support in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that money from performances in major spaces helps the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has commented.

And winners that year M People donated their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated singer the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory touched another person's life."

In the past week, the trust shared it had rescued several local spots in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.
